USS KIRK on NPR

Image from Kirk1087.org

If you have a little bit of time I think you should take a moment to listen (or read) about the US Navy's most important humanitarian rescue mission in history.  This rescue mission took place 35 years ago in Vietnam and save the lives of 20,000-30,000 Vietnamese refugees.

The story is told in three parts so you can either listen to them back to back or over a few days if you'd rather.

You can listen to parts 2 and 3 but have to read part 1.

  1. After 35 Years, Unlikely Navy Caregivers Receive Recognition

  2. 35 Years On, Vietnam Heroes Reunited, Decorated (This is the best part)

  3. At War's End, U.S. Ship Rescued South Vietnam's Navy

Radio Lab

I want to tell you about my new favorite radio show... RadioLab!  I love listening to the radio and thankfully I am able to listen all day long while I'm at work. I think what I enjoy most is that I get to use my imagination to form the picture I see in my mind...unlike watching tv which does nothing to stimulate my brain.

So, what is RadioLab all about... honestly, I'm not really sure!  But I really like it.  Here is the blurb on the website:
Radiolab believes your ears are a portal to another world. Where sound illuminates ideas, and the boundaries blur between science, philosophy, and human experience. Big questions are investigated, tinkered with, and encouraged to grow. Bring your curiosity, and we'll feed it with possibility.
So there ya go.  It is a lot like, This American Life which is also a great radio show.  I think the thing I like the most is that the show points out that things are never quite the way we think they are.  It makes me question the way I see nouns (people, places, things, and ideas)  check it out and let me know what you think.

Check it out on Itunes or online at http://www.wnyc.org/shows/radiolab/

The Decemberist

Yesterday I got to listen to THE DECEMBERIST's brand new album played live from start to finish!
The Decemberist played at SxSW this year and NPR decided to broadcast their full set over the radio and online. You can stream the audio or download the podcast. I recommend download the podcast because I'm not sure how much longer the audio stream will be available.

You can go to NPR.org/music to check it out.
